The final matches of the Champions League group stage were settled last night, and now it´s decided which teams will move on to the round of 16. The group winners will enter the round of 16 as seeded teams, and the runner-ups will be entered unseeded. The draw for the round of 16 will take place on Monday 17 December – and the first matches are to be played on Februay 12th 2019.
Starting with Group A – Borussia Dortmund ended up on top, with Atlético Madrid as runner-up. The teams ended up with 13 points each, and had to be separated by goal difference. FC Barcelona came out on top in Group B, with 14 points after a draw against Tottenham in the last round. Both Tottenham and Milan ended up with 8 points after the last round, but Tottenham got the second place in the table because of scoring more goals.
The teams in Group C were also even, and second place had to be determined through goals scored here as well. PSG won the group with 11 points, after defeating Red Star Belgrade 1-4 in the last round. Liverpool ended up in second place, with 8 points and 9 scored goals compared to Napoli´s 7. In Group D Porto and Schalke 04 topped the table with 16 and 11 points each – way ahead of the other teams in the group. Bayern München ended up with 14 points on top of Group E, with Ajax coming in second with 12 points after playing 1-1 against Bayern in the 6th round.
Manchester City won Group F, and Lyon secured second place after playing 1-1 against Shakhtar Donetsk in the last round. Defending champions Real Madrid came out on top of Group G with 12 points, and Roma secured second place despite their loss against Plzeň in the final round. Finally, Juventus and Manchester United both advanced from Group H, with 12 and 10 points each.
